Where are My Express Tools?

In this Click Saver I want to talk about an issue that sometimes arises when working on the AutoCAD Platform. You installed your AutoCAD and you made sure the Express Tools was checked but when you opened AutoCAD you don’t see it on the ribbon. Here’s something you can try before you do a clean uninstall and re-install to get them working again.

First thing is to check if the CUIX is listed in the MENULOAD command. Type in MENULOAD at the command line and see if you see it.

ACAD1

If Express is in the list then select on Express and click the Unload button and then load it back in by clicking the browse button and look for the acetmain.cuix file in one of these folders below.

Windows 7

C:\Users\Usersname\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\”Name of the Software”\R???\enu\Support

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\Usersname\ApplicationData\Autodesk\Name of the Software\R???\enu\Support

Now select the acetmain.cuix file and click open and hit the load button.

ACAD2

After you click the load button if it loaded successfully it will show “Customization file loaded successfully”. If it doesn’t work or shows it didn’t load successfully then follow these next steps. Go into Control Panel and select Program and Features. Now select on the software and click on Uninstall/Change. When the software splash screen comes up click on Add remove features and click on the next button. Now put a check mark beside Express Tools and click finish to re-install them.

If none of this works then the bummer is the CUIX file is bad and you will need to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of AutoCAD. Even though it just the Express Tools that are not working you need to do this to get them to work again. If you have never done a clean uninstall/reinstall then here is Autodesk’s instructions on how to do it.

I hope that this information gets your Express Tools functioning again, a lot of those tools can be a real time saver. See you in class, Jarod
